Description of Job: Writing Books, mostly non-fiction.
Hours Worked: Sometimes eight days a week!
Work Conditions: Wonderful. I work from home.
Current Salary: Enough for my needs and many of my wants.
Starting Salary: When I started in the 1980s I was told that the average writer made $5000 a year at the craft. So I guess you might want to adjust that for inflation.
Education Required: Technically none. Many autodidacts have been superb writers.
Skills Required: A firm grasp of the language in which you wish to write. The ability to imagine yourself in others’ shoes. If writing nonfiction, an ability to do good and proper research.
Best Things about Job: I believe I make a contribution to society. I do something I love and that is absolutely organic to who I am.
Worse Things about Job: I often forget to build in vacation time. Never being satisfied. Always seeing after the fact where something could be phrased a bit better or how a passage could have more pop.
Job Satisfaction: 100% (unless I’m feeling insecure)
