Description of Job:
As a teacher you are required to create lesson plans that reflect differentiated instruction for the students in your care. You also have to create a safe and nurturing environment. Teachers administer and analyze various assessments to students and plan accordingly. They also attend weekly meetings and are responsible for communicating with parents on a regular basis about their child’s progress.

Hours Worked: Work week is about 30 hours but there are at least 10 hours put in after school and on weekends.

Work Conditions: Work conditions are good, but they vary district to district.

Starting Salary: 45,870

Education Required: Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree within two years of first job.

Skills Required:
You have to be able to communicate well and get along with people. You have to be organized and able to come up with ideas quickly and sometimes on the spot. Behavior management skills are important.

Best Things about Job:
The best thing about the job is seeing the children you teach learn something and then show you that they have mastered what you have taught them. There is such a joy in children when they learn something for the first time.

Worst Things about Job:
The worst thing about the job is having to deal with the limitations and requirements that administration often puts on you, especially when it is something that is not in the best interest of the children. The extra paperwork can also be a big hassle.

Job Satisfaction: This is a very rewarding profession. It allows you to help children grow and to make a change in their lives. I love my job.
